The application presents the evolution of Lake Stymphalia’s natural environment, and the pressures to the natural environment of its wider area resulting from its changes over time. Through processing high resolution (10m) spatial analysis data from Sentinel-2 satellite, updated every 10 days, the application calculates the following map parameters for Lake Stymphalia and its wider area:
a) land use / land cover
b) vegetation
c) water content.
The innovation of the application is the automated processing of satellite images for the calculation and spatio-temporal mapping of the above parameters. In fact, the user chooses from a special menu of available satellite images (which will be updated every 10 days) the period of interest (with a maximum range from 1972 -Landsat imagery- to the most recent satellite image -Sentinel 2 imagery-) and is immediately updated (through mapping and special memos) for the current state of the landscape and the changes that have occurred in it during the chosen period.
The application is deployed in discrete and staggered (content) layers as follows:
a) for use by the Stymphalia Lake Management Authority and the partners of the Life Stymfalia Project;
b) for use by interested parties, experts and the scientific community;
c) for use by the general public (users of different ages without specific knowledge or skills).
In the application you will find three different modes named "Basic", "Advanced" and "Comparison", which provide different capture capabilities of satellite images and parameters of Lake Stymphalia.
